Album Release:

Old Fashioned Love Songs by Gin Jupiter

Nostalgic indie-band Gin Jupiter are tired of short cuts. On their new album Old Fashion Love Songs the band plays their own hand-carved instruments, revolting against a world where computers supposedly can do everything for you. The result is both warm and cinematic. Featuring 12 songs on the theme of love, the listener gets a reminder of what life should actually feel like.

Released by Retrobirds Music, December 4th 2026.

Interview: Gin Jupiter on their new record

THE STORY. Old Fashioned Love Songs is a concept album about love. It features 12 songs about the different stages of love through a lifetime.

For this past decade, the art world has been obsessed with the mundane. Everyday, zoomed-in stories about nothing special has taken the spotlight from the big great love story. But in a time where it feels like we have to fight for our humanity, I want those big old feelings back. I don’t want to know what goes through your mind when you open your fridge, I want stories that make my human heart ache.

My background as musical instrument maker started when I was in high school, picking up the trade from my father, a world class builder of classical guitars in the cultural and guitar building hub of Portland, OR. I learned to build guitars at the absolute peak of craftsmanship where zero compromises were made in material joinery etc. This yielded incredible responsive instruments, where they would leap to your slightest impulse with a depth of sound that suggest the instrument itself possessed a soul. Hooked I kept on building instruments, then amplifiers, and recording equipment. In an era where so many producers and engineers use plug-in’s and and algorithms to emulate and suggest this or that classic record, I reject the imposters, and say do it yourself, build it, work a little harder, get your own songs and sounds. You can’t get love, or life through a software program, its needs to be experienced for real. It’s the same with music and recording.

THE SOUND. We built our sound literally from from the ground up, from the studio building, to the instruments, to the amplifiers and recording equipment. Our sound is our own and utterly authentic.
